Can you believe that there is no place for La Femme Nikita fans to congregate and interact?
The fandom is definitely small but that's not to say that there aren't people out there who remember the show fondly.
So, here we are. Think of this as a place where people are welcome to spend time and talk about all things big and small about the show. I'm talking fan fiction, fan videos, episode discussion, recommendations, the actors and their other projects, etc.
Don't be shy. Feel free to start threads about anything that strikes your fancy.
This is a work in progress, so bear with me.

La Femme Nikita
(1997-2001)

New Roy Movie: "Pointe Noire" by Pat Mire

Roy has a new English language movie called "Pointe Noire" that is slowly being rolled out to regional festivals. He plays a Louisiana based documentary filmmaker and crawfish fisherman who gets involved in helping an attorney get a stay of execution for a death row inmate. It's semiautobiographical for the filmmaker. Roy does so few English language films, but he's been on a roll with the English language projects. It won't be long before he retreats back to French language jobs so it's nice to highlight these projects when they come. He filmed this movie back in 2023 and rather than fly down to Louisiana, he chose to make a road trip out of it and drove a Tesla down from Montreal.

author’s note: This story came together in less than a week when I hit a brick wall on another story I was working on. It's based on the screen grab for the title card from Roy's 2013 movie, "L'Autre Maison". He plays a photojournalist whose goes to Afghanistan and the NATO convoy he was riding in gets hit by a roadside bomb. The sequence in the film inspired the mission that Michael wants to participate in.
Roy at the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards
Jun. 7th, 2025 09:55 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)

Roy was in attendance at the recently held Canadian Screen Awards with his girlfriend Christine. Both of them were nominated but neither won their category. Roy presented one of the final awards of the night, Best Lead Performer--Drama Series. He wore the same suit he wore at last year's Cannes premiere of Rumours.
I think it's a fun coincidence that the category Roy presented is the equivalent to the one Peta Wilson was nominated for several times during the run of LFN when it was called the Gemini Awards.
There's a little banter about Toronto and the Maple Leaf's NHL payoffs performance. Roy offered the winner announcement to his co-presenter but he declined and told Roy that the honor was supposed to be his. Roy quipped that he didn't have his glasses and proceeded to stare pretty intently at the envelope while trying to read the winning name. The entire ceremony is available on YouTube. Roy's segment is near the end, at the 1 hour, 50 minute mark.

Christine also reposted on her Instagram a photo the Canadian Academy had of her and Roy on the Red Carpet.

author’s note: This story was initially inspired by two photographs. The first is a promotional image that was published in Elle Quebec for Roy Dupuis' 2004 movie Jack Paradise in which he plays a jazz pianist in Montreal. He looked absolutely amazing with his white dinner jacket, half smoked cigarette and just the right amount of stubble on his face. The second were two promotional images of Peta Wilson as Nikita that were shot for the series' first season. She was wearing a fur stole and her hair was in some Veronica Lake style waves. Those images alone screamed for a 1940s AU of some sort. The plot point concerning Nikita and Operations was inspired by a wonderful story called "Mutual Respect" by Enjoue and Jean in which they both have to feign an emotional attachment to buy them some time with their kidnappers. I had this story in my drafts folder for some time now and when the 14th round of the

In a doozy of a surprise Christopher Heyn has released a 2nd edition of his out of print book "Inside Section One: Creating and Producing TV's La Femme Nikita" detailing the in-depth production of La Femme Nikita. The original edition of the book is somewhat of a holy grail for LFN fans due to its limited printing. Copies on eBay can go for several hundred dollars. It's a beautiful book, but its coffee table size makes the glue used in the binding quite unwieldy.

This second edition is geared more towards people interested in film production, so it has gone through a few edits here and there (one omission is hair stylist Roger Dalgliesh venting about how Roy Dupuis was itching for a cigarette on the flight out to Los Angeles to shoot the Herb Ritts promotional campaign and he ate all of his peanuts to compensate), but it has also been updated to make reference to today's streaming landscape and other changes to the television industry. Also, the original cover with one of the images of Peta and Roy from the Herb Ritts photoshoot has also been removed and replaced. Apparently, permission to use the image was limited only to the first edition.
The timeline at the end of the original book that details major events in the characters' lives is missing, mainly because it wouldn't be of importance to a film student, but Heyn has mentioned that he might make it available in the future for a small additional cost.

New Headshot for Peta Wilson

Guess who has a new headshot? Does this mean that Peta is going to dip her toes back into acting again?
I love this photo so much. It's a wonderful reminder of just how naturally beautiful she is. I really hope she signs onto new projects. The last thing she worked on was a recurring role in the 2022 Australian set television series Troppo. She's a real talent and I would love to see her gracing our screens once more.

Roy Dupuis at Cannes with "Rumours"
May. 22nd, 2024 06:32 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Guy Maddin and Evan and Galen Johnson's "Rumours" had its Out of Competition Gala Premiere Saturday night in the 10PM evening slot. Roy Dupuis walked the red carpet along with his co-stars and the film's trio of directors.
I think everyone can agree that at 61, Roy Dupuis can still get it. His character is described as "hunky", "buff", and "brooding".
Just as I'd hoped, he wore a black on black suit but he did it in a much more different way than usual. His jacket was almost knee length and there was a subtle sash embellishment across his chest that shimmered in the light. I feel like it didn't quite fit him as well as it could have and would have benefited from some additional tailoring. The sleeves at his wrist looked a little too loose. Roy wore his hair up as I kind of expected but I was disappointed that he wore it in pony tail rather than looping the tail in like he's worn it in Toute la vie and A couer battant.
Like all the other cast members, he got his got his own moment in the spotlight during the standing ovation at the end of the screening. There was an afterparty where he also made an appearance.

Countdown to Roy at Cannes
May. 16th, 2024 08:08 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I'm sending positive vibes into the air that Roy will grace us with some sartorial style at the premiere of "Rumours" Saturday night.
Gala screenings require a tuxedo, which is nothing to sneeze at, but I would kill to have Roy show up in a sleek and immaculately tailored black on black ensemble and that mane of his perfectly coifed.
It's something we really haven't seen from him since he played Michael. Still, there is something so cool about the way he wears the fade with the man bun.
Whatever he wears, I'm sure it won't disappoint.

author’s note: In reading LFN fic I repeatedly came across the concept of Michael going into "machine mode". It describes the very focused headspace that he enters during missions and how very methodical, indiscriminate, and detached he gets when the success of a mission is paramount. I rather liked how prevalent it became in a fandom. The show referred to Michael's approach as "primal", but I don't feel like "machine mode" was an inaccurate description of him. It did get me wondering about how something like that would play out. What if Michael was an actual machine? I started jotting things down for this story back in the fall of 2021, so not quite three years ago, but close. It was one of my rotating stories that I had open in the background of my laptop. When I realized, that it had been idle for such a long time, a decided to commit it to the 13th round of the

Summary: "It's not important what you did...it's what you do."
Why this must be watched: This is an amazing fanvid by a vidder with a wonderful eye for movement. It's a tribute to Michael and boy does it capture Michael at his most driven and effortlessly cool. Yeah, because Michael is very cool. There are absolutely no flaws with this fanvid. The editing is tight and fits the momentum of the song. The clip selection is a wonderful mix of Action!Michael and more subtle moments. So much skill went into crafting the final product. The effects used enhance the experience without detracting from the editing. Watch this vid if you want crisp editing, a great song and most importantly a vid that really does justice to Michael's ability to get the job done no matter the obstacles.

Guess who's going to Cannes!
But the real question is, will Roy walk the red carpet? Out of Competition films do get a red carpet. It's also black tie.
Executive Producer Ari Aster said this to Deadline: “Rumours is stoopid and hilarious and wonderful, and it features the best cast ever assembled. The spirit of Buñuel and Monty Python and overwrought ’70s television (and of course the Maddin/Johnson sensibility, which has no real analogue) is alive and strange.”
The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 14 through May 25th.
The film will premiere Saturday, May 18th at a 10PM Gala Screening at the Grand Théâtre Lumière of the Palais des Festivals.

Roy's French Dub for LFN in Québec
Mar. 5th, 2024 05:39 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Here's a fun find that just got posted a few months ago. It's a promo for the premiere episode of the show that aired in Québec. Most importantly, it features Roy's own dubbing of his dialogue in French for the Québec market.
I always thought that Roy's dubbing was used for the French market in general, but I recently saw several scenes from the first season in French and Michael's voice was definitely not Roy's. I guess his only got used for the French Canadian market. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So I guess it was bound to happen but at 60 years old, Roy is now playing a grandfather.
He's currently in production in Manitoba on the wilderness survival story "Hair of the Bear" which "tells the story of a teenager battling anxiety who finds resilience living with her grandfather in the unforgiving wilderness." The movie is scheduled for a 2025 release and is directed by Alexandre Trudeau, brother of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The movie is scheduled for a 2025 release and is directed by Alexandre Trudeau, brother of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Alexandre Trudeau, renowned for his geopolitical documentaries, and James McLellan, a Winnipeg teacher and filmmaker, co-direct this compelling narrative. The film marks their debut in the realm of narrative features. 'Hair of the Bear' weaves an intricate tale of Tori, a teenager grappling with paralyzing anxiety, who finds herself sent to live with her grandfather in the unforgiving wilderness.
The script, penned by McLellan, draws from the rich tapestry of human resilience and adaptation. Trudeau, with his background in exploring global dynamics, discerns a parallel in examining individual human experiences under extreme pressure.
The film boasts a cast that reflects the multifaceted landscape of Canada. Malia Baker, known for her role in 'The Baby-Sitters Club', steps into the shoes of Tori. Roy Dupuis, a seasoned actor celebrated for his performances in 'The Rocket' and 'Shake Hands with the Devil', portrays the grandfather.
The behind-the-scenes team is equally diverse, with Stefan Ciupek, a German cinematographer, lending his expertise to capture the stark beauty and harsh realities of the Canadian wilderness.
As the shoot continues until early March, anticipation for 'Hair of the Bear' continues to grow. Scheduled for a 2025 release, the film promises to deliver a poignant and powerful survival story that resonates with audiences worldwide.
The film's production mirrors the narrative's core themes of endurance and hope. As the cast and crew brave the harsh winter conditions, they embody the spirit of resilience that 'Hair of the Bear' seeks to convey.
In the quiet town of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, a story of survival and transformation is taking shape. 'Hair of the Bear', under the helm of Trudeau and McLellan, promises to be a compelling exploration of the human will to adapt and endure.
As the cameras continue to roll in the snowy wilds, the tale of Tori and her grandfather's struggle against the unforgiving wilderness comes to life. With its diverse cast and crew, and a narrative steeped in resilience and hope, 'Hair of the Bear' is poised to captivate audiences when it hits the screens in 2025.
